Cornea Cross Linking
Just wanted to update you guys about Joe's eyes. We found out at the end of October when we went for our return visit that he hadn't had too much more corneal deterioration in the span of about 30 days. That gave us a couple weeks to figure out the logistics and he is now scheduled for surgery on December 16th at 9:30am. We will have a follow up the next morning and then he has to go back at different time intervals over the next 2 years to be evaluated since it's a clinical study. He has been in a lot more pain and discomfort over the last 3 weeks, so we are both relieved to finally have it scheduled. He is such a trooper and rarely complains when I know he is in pain. Very atypical of the male gender I would say! Now there is just some anxiety building for Joe as the date gets closer. I mean, who wants to have surgery on their eyes while they are awake?? But his prescription for several doses of anxiety relieving Ativan for surgery day are posted on the fridge and just waiting to be filled!*

Poor Joe, that doesn't sound fun, but hopefully this will help a lot! He'll be in my thoughts!!
Hope everything works out for Joe!! What happened in the first place? I can't imagine having eye surgery while awake...ah!
Katie,
Just one of those weird things that we found out he had. Apparently it's genetic, but we don't know of any family members that have it.
